Aaargh, what can I say after so many months?

I'm still in the same job, which is going reasonably well but has not been very interesting, so I shan't say anything more about it.

My paternal grandmother died. I don't really know what to say about it.

We were forced to move in June because our landlord wanted to sell the flat. This was all very expensive and disruptive, and we even had to pay extra to leave before the date imposed on us.

Points in favour of the new flat:

  • Most of the rooms are a bit larger.
  • The main bedroom has a large fitted cupboard/wardrobe.
  • It has a hall and a boiler room, both useful for storing things that were previously in the living room, which makes it a lot less cluttered.
  • It has gas central heating and water heating with a timer, which should be cheaper and quicker than the electric heating in the old place.
  • It has a fully working shower, whereas in the old flat there was no shower curtain and the shower would run cold when hooked to the wall.
  • The washing machine is accessible, whereas the one in the old flat opened under a shelf.
  • There are railings outside which we can lock the bikes to.
  • The loft provides lots of storage space.
  • It's closer to the station and the centre of town.
  • There's a 24-hour supermarket not too far away.

Points against it:

  • The fridge is small and is missing some pieces like vegetable bins.
  • There's no dishwasher or tumble-drier, or any space for them.
  • The kitchen and bathroom are generally a bit grotty.
  • It's further from my workplace.
  • It's more expensive (£625 per month).
  • It doesn't have a meadow outside.

Four months on, we still haven't unpacked everything or had a flatwarming...

We celebrated our first wedding anniversary - by going to the pub quiz. Actually we went to the wonderful Restaurant 22 on the day after.

We had a two-week holiday in Europe, staying in Paris (general tourism), Amsterdam (ditto), Leiden (an afpmeet), various parts of Germany (visiting [livejournal.com profile] aldoingermany and his boyfriend, then [livejournal.com profile] soubrette's family including [livejournal.com profile] hdmsprinter) and ending up in Geneva. [livejournal.com profile] soubrette is supposed to be writing an account of this, so I'm not going to give all the details.

Now it's getting cold in Cambridge and I'm cycling around in a wool coat and gloves. We've stopped making salads and other such food and are now making things like pumpkin stew (which is very nice). [livejournal.com profile] soubrette intends to make more pumpking stuff which is good because we have about 2 kilos of pumpkin flesh left over from that!

Getting back to the con thing I mentioned on nattie's journal - would you be interested in taking part in the group masquerade entry, and if so, can I just check how tall you are?
