No no no, you've got to haggle

All being well, I should be buying the car today. The AA inspection report arrived yesterday (along with 3 memberships to the AA - evidently my 2 attempts at registering through the web site did work despite the error message at the end of the process). A fog lamp lens and part of the exhaust need replacing; the brake discs need to be examined and possibly replaced; two tires are on the way out; and the steering needs to be examined. My knowledgeable colleague phoned up his garage to get estimates for all this and it looks like it could cost about £500! So I'm going to try to knock down the sale price a bit. Now I'm off to the bank to get a draft for what I'm going to offer and cash for the difference in case I don't succeed.

Update: In the end I got £105 off - not a whole lot, but the price was relatively low already. Still, I've spent over £4000 today including insurance and petrol, which is rather more money than I've spent on, well, anything, before. I still need to arrange the servicing at some time in the next month, and pay road tax (my colleague noticed as we left that there was no tax disc on it, which was legitimate so long as it was off the road but not for the journey back to work!).

Edinburgh

Tomorrow tea_cantata and I going up to Scotland to spend a week on tour with her choir. We shall have time for sightseeing in Edinburgh (aka "Embra", apparently). Is there anything we really must see there, aside from the Castle?
