DVD burning - lessons learned
Sep. 28th, 2005 09:23 pm- Bulkpaq discs are crap, even when they come from a reputable manufacturer (e.g. Ritek or TDK). I reckon they buy from reject bins.
- CMC Magnetics may have a bad reputation, but I don't believe I've made coasters out of any of their +R discs.
- Sony discs are also good, and not too expensive in bulk.
- A drive may be able to record on all kinds of recordable DVD, but that doesn't mean they'll all be readable in anything else. My Lite-on +/-R[W] drive doesn't seem to be able to make usable recordings on -R media.
- +R discs can be highly compatible, especially if you use dvd+rw-booktype to make them look like DVD-ROMs.
- dvdauthor and mkisofs have overlapping functionality and ought to be better integrated.
