Dec. 1st, 2004 12:26 amMaybe I should actually write something about myself rather than posting random links and other crap.
A few weeks ago I was intending to post about how well things were going, but I thought that would be tempting fate. Which was correct, because I then spent a week feeling barely awake and failing to go to work. I've since improved a bit, but was very sleepy yesterday.
It's not been all bad though. Nattie went to see her mother for a week and I coped just fine on my own, rather than feeling lonely and sorry for myself the whole time. Then for several weeks after that I was able to get up and go to work between 9 and 10, do ~8 hours and come back in the early evening, roughly in sync with Nattie.
My parents have visited us a couple of times. First time we went to the Botanical Gardens with them, where I'd previously only been to see the Titan Arum. It's well worth a visit and I got some good photos, which I shall try to scan and post shortly. We went to Dojo's for a late lunch, then to the Fitzwilliam Museum. On their second visit, the weekend before last, we went up to King's Lynn, which turned out to be well worth the visit. We went to the Custom House down by the river, St Margaret's Church (which has a banner depicting her towering over it, and some fabulous wood carvings on the pews), and then had lunch at a sandwich and tapas bar. After that we went to True's Yard, a museum of the previous rather grim life of fishermen in King's Lynn, incorporating the two remaining fishermen's cottages. We then missed a train, stopped for some tea and cakes, nearly missed the next train, and finally headed home.
After this last visit we (that is, tea_cantata and I) went to
lnr's birthday party, which was most enjoyable. Then on the Sunday we entertained (not very much)
gerald_duck, his housemate,
terryfish, and
pseudomonas by cooking dinner for them and then playing evil music and video to them. (I would like to point out that
tea_cantata is the evil one. Not I.)
This weekend saw us at the Debian Bug-Squashing Party in Cambridge, although tea_cantata headed off to the Carlton along with
gerald_duck and
shortcipher later on Sunday. I wasn't able to be massively helpful, and I wasted a lot of time trying in vain to install sarge on a SPARCstation clone and an Amiga, but I came up with patches that should fix a few bugs.
