Life is going fairly well at the moment. Work is OK, and Nattie is spending lots of time with me (after a week of heavy socialising elsewhere).

We are intending to buy a second-hand car, so on the last two Saturdays I've gone out looking at cars (once with and once without Nattie). Our friend Jamie (who ought to get a journal) has been driving. We're fairly sure about what we're after, which has meant a fair bit of travelling around. Might be able to make a decision in the next week or so, though, after getting definite insurance quotes (possibly around £1000 a year... Tesco said about £500 but I'm not sure they took down our details correctly).

As a late Christmas present I bought a larger memory card and memory card reader for Nattie's new camera. Unfortunately the reader was a bit weird and didn't work with the appropriate Linux driver. After a couple of weeks of to-ing and fro-ing with a manufacturer that claimed to support Linux, I had to give up and returned it. On Saturday, however, I found out that there is Linux software that can talk to the camera, after all, which I had never expected, so Nattie has her pictures on the PC at last.

...speaking of which, I set up file sharing between our two PCs, so we have the same personal files and configuration on both of them...

It has been quite sunny for the past few days, though still cold, so I went out and took some photos yesterday shortly before sunset. Since I'm still living in the dark ages of film, I can't show you anything yet, but I'll probably have the roll finished soon. My subjects were (1) daffodils in the front garden (2) cyclists in silhouette and (3) Nattie (with a very long shadow).

I heard about an interesting (well, to me) programming conference being held in a couple of weeks' time. Quite a few big names will be speaking there and I hope to hear some words of wisdom (and maybe ask stupid questions too). I'm hoping I can get my employer to send me there. I expressed my interest today and the initial response was positive, so I might be in luck.
