You would not believe how hard it can be to pay for a one-way flight.

To get a reasonably priced one-way fare for Nattie we had to resort to the rather clunky flights.com site where we chose US Airways flights at $265. Add various taxes, and that comes to $285. So I gave my credit card details, and later got confirmation of the price (now $305 due to additional taxes) and reservation... and a notice that I must pay by "certified check or money order", and within the 2 days the reservation can be held for. I never needed to pay for anything with a money order before, but they seemed to be insistent on this. So yesterday I went to the American Express office in town to get the money order, paid £5 in commission on it, and arranged to FedEx it over from the office. Unfortunately, I missed the 4pm deadline for next-day delivery, and they apparently don't deliver at the weekend (?!) so they're going to charge me £25 to deliver it on Monday, the 5th day. So I'm really hoping that the reservation can be held or re-made at the same price.

Even with all the extras, it's still cheaper than any other fare I found. Why is it that airlines don't want to sell long-haul one-way tickets?
